I'm a Midwest native, born in Buffalo. As a child my family moved to Cleveland where they remain today. I've been interested in broadcasting since I was a child. My parents will tell you (oh, how they LOVE to tell embarrassing stories) how I would pretend to be a radio DJ or newscaster with my toy microphones. In high school I was the morning announcement host and an actor in student theater.

I am a proud graduate of the Broadcast Journalism program at Kent State University. I also earned a minor in computer information systems. My college years proved busy, I spent most of my free time as student production director, producer, anchor, weatherman and general manager at the student-run radio and television stations. I also worked as an anchor/reporter for the local PBS news program, NEwsOhio.

After graduation it was time to venture off into the real world. I landed a reporter job at WSYM, the Fox affiliate in Lansing, MI. Within a year I was promoted to main night reporter and then to a weekend anchor position. I'll admit it; I made a lot of mistakes while in Lansing. I also realized that I made the right decision. I loved reporting and anchoring the news.

From Lansing I ventured off to WJRT, the ABC-owned station in Flint, MI. I worked as a weekend morning anchor and reporter. I had a blast covering Mid-Michigan. My favorite memories include traveling to Ohio State to cover the big University of Michigan / Ohio State rivalry game. WJRT also sent me to Las Vegas to cover the Consumer Electronics Show. I was a kid in a candy store at CES. This was a cross of my two passions, journalism and technology.

Sometimes your life takes you places you never thought you would go in a million years. For me, that place was Utah. I took a morning anchor/reporter job with KSTU, the Fox affiliate in Salt Lake City. I fell in love with the mountains and had a blast on the Good Day Utah team. I was also able to continue reporting on technology with my franchise segment, Kirk Yuhnke - Tech Junkie. I became the consumer "test it" guy with the Kirk, Does It Work? franchise.

After 3 years in Utah, I couldn't pass up a great opportunity to become a morning anchor at the ABC affiliate in Phoenix, KNXV. At ABC15 I continue to cover technology while anchoring the morning newscast. I'm ahead of the curve when it comes to connecting with our viewers via social media, daily video blogs and live video chats. For me, it's not about doing it simply because it's a "work requirement." I do it because I love it.

Somehow I convinced my high school sweetheart to come along for this nutty ride from state to state. Katie and I have 2 beautiful children. We love to hike, bike and vacation but we spend most of our time these days packing snacks, filling up sippy cups and chasing kids around the house.
